Take Me Out to the Met Ball

I know I’m a little late to the Met Ball party, but there are just so many dresses and people to look through that it took me a few days to decide who my favorites were. The Met Ball is kind of a big deal. Unlike the Oscars or other award ceremonies, the Met Ball isn’t about actors, singers, and the general celebrity culture. The Met Ball is a celebration of fashion. So naturally, people tend to take it up a notch (or ten) on the this-isn’t-clothing-it’s-art scale and the result is amazing. In no particular order, here are my top 10 favorite looks of the evening:

Camilla Belle looking lovely in Ralph Lauren

Diane Kruger in a strangely awesome Prada

Chanel Iman in a jaw-dropping Tom Ford

Ginnifer Goodwin’s Givenchy gets the orange trend spot-on

Emily Blunt’s simple Calvin Klein is stunning

Kate Bosworth’s hairy Prada number is so modern-chic

I kind of can’t stand Rachel Berry, but Lea Michele looks pretty amazing in this Diane von Furstenberg

Also in the stunning category, Gisele Bundchen in Givenchy

Possibly my favorite dress of the evening, January Jones’ Versace. I could just stare at it for days. Actually, I kind of have.

The front of this dress is a little boring, but Candice Swanepoel’s dress is mesmerizing from the back. And it’s Rag & Bone!

Do you think there’s anyone else who should be on this list? Which dress was your favorite?

Reconsidering Weitzman

I know I said the cheapo ones were better, but Solange Knowles and Leandra Medine make the Stuart Weitzman’s look pretty damn stylish.

Leandra, (Ms. Man Repeller herself) (soon to be Mrs. which defeats the purpose of man repelling) (I still love you, don’t worry) wore them especially well. Her Mary Jane’s in Blush Aniline offer a nice contrast to her faded jeans, gray tee, and leather jacket. Fashion is all about contrast. That’s the designer in the middle there, if you didn’t get that. Do you like how she styled them?

Cape Town (and Other Fashion Victories at the Oscars)

Okay, can we talk about the Oscars for a second? I’ve never actually watched an award show in my  life, but they are the perfect time for a fashion moment. So, earlier today I was on my style.com iPhone app as usual, and went to vote for my favorite “look of the day” as I do every day, and my jaw literally dropped at the first picture that popped up. It was Gwyneth Paltrow in that Tom Ford dress-and-cape gorgeousness.

Of course, I voted for her in the style.com poll. She can pull off a cape better than any model. This then prompted me to head over to the style.com website and check out what other celebs wore to the Oscars. Although I personally think that no one topped Gwynnie, there were some other fashion victories to be had.

A close second was Judy Greer wearing Monique Lhullier. I believe my exact words were, “I would go lesbo for her. Just to wear that dress.”

Esperanza Spalding. I have no idea who she is or who her dress is by, but it’s the ultimate dream prom dress and I really want it.

Kristin Wiig really brought it in this J. Mendel. She looks beautiful.

Stacy Keibler. Never heard of her, but I’m loving her Marchesa.

Jessica Chastain’s Alexander McQueen is flawless.

I love Kelly Ripa’s Carolina Herrera, but something seems a little off about it. Maybe it’s not quite Oscar worthy?

What do you think of these dresses? Is there another celeb whose look you loved?

I’m not typically one for men’s fashion, but Pharrell Williams is lookin’ gooood in his Lanvin.
